Alabama Marines Host Inaugural Tuscaloosa Gauntlet 5K Obstacle Course Race
The inaugural “Tuscaloosa Gauntlet”, a Marine-inspired 5K obstacle course race is set for Saturday, April 9th at the Buddy Powell Pavilion near Sokol Park. The first-time event is hosted by Alabama Marines Foundation in partnership with Tuscaloosa County Parks and Recreation (PARA) and Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports (TTS).
According to the press release “the Alabama Marines Foundation has been looking forward to hosting an event such as the Tuscaloosa Gauntlet since the O-Course was constructed in 2021,” said Lee Busby, Tuscaloosa City Councilman, and former Alabama Marines Foundation board chair.
What to Expect
The course is patterned by the experience of a Marines, this 5k course is “open and welcome to all.” There are different options for registrations available, open, competitive, and youth race (4 to 9). There are many attractions to the race you can “expect mud, slides, ropes, cargo nets, natural obstacles, a rig, and many large walls.”

The press release noted that “race registration is $79 for the competitive heat, $69 for the open heat, and $29 for the youth race. Rates increase to $10 on April 1st. For an additional $10, participants can compete separately for the “fastest time” on the O’ Course, winning a prize and bragging rights.”
