Alabama LB Rashaan Evans on Defense’s Performance and Overcoming Adversity
There's been some concern among fans and the media that Alabama might get tripped up before the playoffs after a late-game win over Mississippi State. The defense struggled to get off the field against the Bulldogs, and that raises questions with two top-10 teams - potentially - standing in the way of another SEC Championship and College Football Playoff appearance.
A closer look at the statistics show you that things weren't as bad as they seemed, but linebacker Rashaan Evans knows the defense can improve moving forward.
"I feel like, as far as the whole defense, I feel like we could have did a lot better," Evans said. "There were a lot of things that kinda hindered us from being able to play to our full potential. One of those number one things was we had injuries. We had guys out there that were injured and they was out there, playing to their best ability. It kind of just shows you the character of our defense. Regardless of whatever situation that we have, we're able to just play through it."
They'll have to continue playing through the injuries this week against Mercer and the following week in the Iron Bowl, and pulling out the victory over Mississippi State showed the Alabama players that they could fight through and overcome adversity.
"I feel like that was probably one of the biggest, most important things that we can learn off that game is to understand that regardless of how far down you are, anything can happen."
You can listen to everything Evans had to say in the video at the top of the page.
