Who’s Hungry? Buffalo Phil’s to Host 38th Annual Wing Eating Contest
Who doesn't love chicken wings?
You don't need to have a degree in Poultry Science from that cow college across the state to appreciate the intricate delicacy that is a perfectly sauced chicken wing. Of course, every chicken wing connoisseur has their number. You know, how many wings can you eat?
For 10 participants at Buffalo Phil's this Wednesday, they'll have to push that number to the limit as the famed restaurant on the corner of University Blvd and 12th Ave will host its 38th Annual Wing Eating Contest.
All ten competitors have put in $10, but only one will be able to walk away with the $100 prize.
Each competitor will have 15 minutes to devour as many pounds of mild wings as they possibly can. They'll each be given a plate with 100 wings (Yes, drums and flats we don't have time for superiority complexes here!). Those plates will be weighed individually and the competitor that creates the largest discrepancy in beginning weight and final weight will be declared the winner.
Listen, I had 15 wings on my birthday last week, and I still feel like I'm going to pop. Let's leave this one to the pros. These guys and gals will be splitting nearly 1,000 wings between themselves, after all.
Phil's will close the dining room for the competitors to give them space -- to toss bones and keep everyone at a safe distance from popped buttons, I'm sure. The friends and family will be the closest to the competitors to cheer them on, but the public is welcome to stop by and watch these hungry, hungry warriors do battle.
The competition will begin Wednesday night at Buffalo Phil's at 6 p.m. and the folks there promise drink specials during the event.
