Cyrus Porter was hoping to go see Taylor Swift on her next tour. The 96-year-old World War II vet had no idea she was making plans to come visit with him.

The surprise happened on Monday (Dec. 26) during Porter’s holiday party. Dozens of friends and family members were shocked to see the country and pop music star walk through the family’s front door. After greeting Porter, she proceeded to play a private concert for him and his family. He and his wife have over 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to KFVS-TV in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

His family took photos and video and made him a social media star overnight. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with cancer, but is still hopeful he’ll be able to see her the next time she tours. He fell in love with her show the first two times he saw her live.

"Look what she does, she puts on a show no one else puts on," he tells the television station. "I just liked the way the way she did stuff." Previously he’d told KFVS she was the only thing he was really into, partly because it helps him connect with his grandchildren.

Swift read about the New Madrid, Mo., war veteran and, along with her parents, made a stop the day after Christmas. Longtime fans know that her popping up with gifts or a show is nothing new, but it was truly a Christmas miracle for this 96-year-old.
