A new restaurant that will specialize in serving high-quality steak and seafood  is set to open in Northport later this month.

Jeff Hogg, the city councilman who represents Northport's District 5, said Shanks Steaks & Catfish will open just before the intersection of Highway 43 and State Route 171 where there used to be a Texaco gas station.

In an October Facebook post, owner Wayne Burch said Shanks will feature quality steaks, catfish, pork, chicken, homemade pastas and desserts. He said the restaurant will have a hired chef, professional bartenders and will offer discounts to military, police, first responders and seniors.

Hogg said Burch intended to open the restaurant in December, but elected instead to go the extra mile and remove gas pumps and other structures left behind by Texaco to claim the entire lot and create more parking for customers.

"We are very pleased to welcome this new business to our city. Northport residents have asked for new to market restaurants, specifically steak and seafood, so we feel this is something the citizens will fully get behind and support," Hogg said. "This is a very exciting time in the history of Northport. We are positioning ourselves by showing our value to attract businesses to want to call Northport home."

No solid opening date has been announced, but Shank's is already on Facebook and announced this week that they are accepting applications for chefs, line cooks, servers and bartenders.
