The Alabama Crimson Tide is in the middle of spring practice 2021, one of the top priorities for the program is determining who is going to take snaps at quarterback in the upcoming season. While the battle will not be settled during the spring, the candidates can make a strong case for themselves to win the job.

Bryce Young enters spring as the favorite to win the job and is often shown first in the videos provided by Alabama athletics. Young is the only quarterback on the roster that earned playing time last season. He appeared in nine games, passing for 156 yards and one touchdown.

"I think everybody’s made a lot of improvement. Bryce has made a lot of improvement. I think he’s a lot more confident. I think I’ve talked about this before, that we wanted to play Bryce a lot more than he got to play last year," said Saban. "But I think just having all the reps that he had last year, he’s much more confident. I think he’s doing very well."

Paul Tyson has the most experience of the three candidates as he enters his third season on the roster. Coach Bryant's great-grandson has appeared in one game during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Early-enrollee Jalen Milroe makes up the third candidate, the 4-star quarterback out of Texas will look to impress with his natural athleticism.

"Paul has made a tremendous amount of improvement. I think Jalen has a lot of upside. Right now, we’ve got to work on his fundamentals and his technique. But he’s really got a lot of ability, and we’re going to continue to try to work with him to develop and see if he can have a role on the team," Saban continued. "All the guys have made progress, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond in the scrimmage as well."

The Crimson Tide will hold its first scrimmage of spring practice on Friday, April 2.
