A man who stole more than $20,000 from a fund raising group for the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office and The FBI, Randall Sho Woods, 33, of Hoover, was an accountant who served a treasurer for the Million Dollar Band Association. FBI agents arrested him, and he was charged with multiple counts of bank fraud, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Woods was eventually pleaded guilty, to which he was subsequently sentenced to two years and three months in prison on two counts of wire fraud and one count of bank fraud.

According to the indictment, Woods wrote checks totaling more than $20,000 to himself from The Million Dollar Band Association, a non-profit organization external from the university that supported the band.  U.S. Attorney Jay Town said, “This case is yet another example of an employee stealing from a series of employers”. He added, “Citizens have to trust those with access to bank accounts and confidential business information and when that trust is breached, there needs to be dire consequences.”
