Let's rewind for a moment back to the 2019 season.

Alabama faced off against Mississippi State and held a comfortable 35-7 with 3 minutes to go in the 1st half. Former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was tackled by two Bulldog defenders and was carted off the field with a season-ending injury. It was at this moment that we saw the beginning of quarterback Mac Jones' Alabama career.

Five games in the 2020 season and Jones has been nothing short of spectacular.

Jones has thrown for 1,905 yards and 12 touchdowns thus far. In the previous matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers, Jones set a school record previously held by former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy for consecutive completions at 19. Jones, before this past Saturday's game, had thrown for over 400 yards in three straight games. To compare, Tua threw for over 400 three times total last season.

Additionally, in three out of the first five games, Mac Jones has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. Alabama head coach Nick Saban spoke to the media and talked about Mac Jones' maturity as a player this season.

"Mac has shown a lot of maturity so far in the way he has played," Saban said. "Mac has been able to stay steady and makes good choices and decisions. He has done that all year long, but also on a consistent basis."

In the history of the Heisman trophy, Alabama has never had a quarterback win the prestigious award. It is early in the season, but Mac Jones is proving this season that his name should be respected and added to the nationwide conversation for the Heisman.
