Tuscaloosa’s Northridge High School Mourns Death of Junior
Students, faculty and parents at Northridge High School are mourning the Wednesday afternoon death of a junior studying there.
The school said on Facebook that the student, junior Dennis Griffin, died at UAB Hospital on Wednesday.
Griffin was reportedly hurt this weekend and passed away in the hospital Wednesday evening.
The school called the junior a student, an athlete and a friend to many who had a profound impact on Northridge High. He played soccer and football for NHS.
Counselors and social workers have been at the school since early this week to talk to students about the situation and help them cope, and the school said resources are also available for faculty and staff who are grieving.
"Any time there is a death of a student, there is an opportunity and a need for parents to have important discussions with their children or others who may be struggling," the school wrote. "Below is a link with information to help as you talk to your children and help them through their grief. It has tips broken down by age group."
The juvenile's death comes the same week as Tuscaloosa's Bryant High School mourns two students who died after a wreck on Highway 69 on Saturday night.
Our thoughts are with the entire Tuscaloosa City Schools system and the students, staff and parents at both facilities at this time.
