Northport’s Biscuit Shop to Permanently Close Next Week
A beloved biscuit bakery that moved from Mississippi to Northport will permanently close next week after four years in its Alabama home.
The Biscuit Shop was a Starkville staple founded in 2015 that was soon purchased and taken over by Krista Olley, who is more commonly known as "the Biscuit Lady."
As the brand outgrew its first home in Mississippi, Olley announced plans to close in Starkville and open a new Biscuit Shop Company in Northport on McFarland Boulevard next to Chicken Salad Chick. She did so in 2020, fully committing to a future in west Alabama.
That growth slowed, though, especially when the Alabama Department of Transportation began its yearslong project to widen McFarland Boulevard from Rice Mine Road to Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard.
In late July, with the road work still underway and limiting easy access to local businesses, Olley announced that the Biscuit Shop would permanently close if their landlord could find another tenant for the space and that she would sell the company if possible.
"We are so sorry, between the economy and the road construction we just couldn’t recover," they wrote in the summer. "The shop needs someone with refreshed ideas and energy."
In a Friday update on Facebook, the shop said no life-preserver appeared and the bakery will permanently close on September 14th, next Saturday.
The Biscuit Shop will remain open for its regular hours until that time and is offering all its favorites, including some limited edition holiday specials, to order before the opportunity ends.
