San Francisco 49'ers Quarterback Mac Jones overcame a startling site last Thursday to have another outstanding performance as the fill-in starting signal caller. Just hours before he passed for 342 yards and two touchdowns to set up the winning overtime field goal in Los Angeles Thursday night, the former Crimson Tide national champion witnessed a sight few would expect to see from their hotel room. After waking up, he stepped out on his room's balcony to start game day and saw a body floating in the water.

Senior NFL sportswriter Diana Russini reported about the incident in The Athletic. She wrote that the incident happened in Marina del Ray, a major boating and water recreation destination in the Greater Los Angeles area where the San Francisco football team stays when they play in Los Angeles.

Later as the team boarded busses for SoFi Stadium players and coaches reported seeing police investigators and a coroner’s van in the parking lot.

L.A. County Sheriff’s Department homicide Lt. Daniel Vizcarra confirmed to Russini that what Jones saw was a deceased male. However, the detective did not reveal the possible cause of death. As of this morning the death is still listed as under investigation.

Jones was not the only person who observed the body. Two maintenance workers at the hotel also reported it to 911.

It was amazing Jones was able to maintain concentration after witnessing such a traumatic event. But he has shown tremendous leadership filling in for injured starter Brock Purdy. The team is 3-and-0 since Jones took control.

Purdy is listed as "day-to-day" from his injury, but Jones' performance has started a debate over which QB should lead the team the rest of the season.

Jones and the 49'ers will be in the south for their next game when they visit Tampa Bay this coming Sunday.
