Alabama football's backup safety Dre Kirkpatrick, Jr. was speeding on the Tuscaloosa Strip and fled from police who tried to stop him before his weekend arrest, according to court documents filed on Monday.

As the Thread and sister site Tide 100.9 first reported, Kirkpatrick was jailed this weekend. Court documents show he has been charged with five misdemeanors - three counts of reckless endangerment, one count of attempting to elude and one count of an illegal motor vehicle speed contest.

Court records show he was also charged with five traffic citations: exceeding a reasonable or prudent speed, failure to obey police orders, illegally tinted windows, failure to wear a seatbelt and a reckless driving traffic citation.

In depositions filed late Monday, police with the University of Alabama Police Department said they attempted to stop Kirkpatrick as he drove a white Mercedes sedan at a high rate of speed near the intersection of University Boulevard and Campus Drive - the heart of the Tuscaloosa Strip.

They said they observed the driver "continuing to accelerate without regard to heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic" as officers on foot directed him to pull into a ride-share lane on University Boulevard.

Officers said Kirkpatrick began moving into that lane, then pulled back into the driving lane with officers in front of the car and one pulling on his door handle.

"He continued to approach officers, who placed their hands on the hood, hoping that the driver would stop. The driver continued forward, and officers moved out of the path of the vehicle as it sped off. Officers struck the vehicle and driver side window in an attempt to get the driver to stop."

The officer said he identified the driver as Kirkpatrick, "with whom I have had multiple interactions on the Strip," he wrote in the report.

The incident was also reportedly caught on surveillance and body cameras.

Kirkpatrick reportedly turned himself in to face charges Saturday.

Although UAPD's report after the incident indicated they were weighing a misdemeanor simple assault charge against Kirkpatrick, he had only been charged with the five misdemeanors and five traffic citations listed above as of Monday night.

Defense attorney Jason Neff is representing Kirkpatrick, according to court documents.

Kirkpatrick, a 5-foot-11, 202-pound safety, was a three-star defensive back prospect in the state of Alabama, who signed with Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide as a member of the Tide's 2024 recruiting class. He committed to the University of Alabama in August 2023, and he is the son of former Alabama and Cincinnati Bengals safety Dre Kirkpatrick.

Kirkpatrick Jr. has appeared in eight games for Alabama in the 2025 season, totaling nine tackles. He also has a tackle for loss and one forced fumble on the season, with both coming in Alabama's 73-0 win over ULM. On Alabama's depth chart, he's listed as the backup to starter Keon Sabb at strong safety.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said in a Monday press conference that the young player had been indefinitely suspended.
