Adopt a Pet for FREE at Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter This Weekend
Residents of West Alabama can adopt a forever friend without any cost this weekend, thanks to a partnership with the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, Chewy Inc., and the Best Friends Animal Society.
This Thanksgiving weekend, from Friday, November 29th through Sunday, December 1st, the BFAS and "Chewy Claus" are making free adoptions possible at TMAS and other shelters across America.
Each holiday season, Chewy accepts letters written on behalf of pets around the country and ships out toys and treats to beloved companions in homes as well as to their nonprofit partners.
In a press release, the company said the letters are often topped by one wish - that animals in shelters and rescue programs can find loving homes. This weekend, the partnerships will make that wish come true for thousands of families and animals by removing the financial barriers from the adoption process.
“Chewy Claus is dedicated to spreading joy during the happiest time of the year,” said Orlena Yeung, Chief Brand Officer at Chewy. “When we received thousands of letters from pets asking for homes, we knew we had to help. There’s no better way to celebrate the season than by uniting pets with loving families—whether they’re first-time pet parents or welcoming a furry friend back home.”
Chewy and the Best Friends Animal Society will provide funding for free adoptions at the shelter all weekend.
“As we head into the winter holidays, shelters and rescue organizations across the country are filled with adoptable dogs and cats that deserve loving homes,” said Julie Castle, the CEO of the Best Friends Animal Society. “Adoption is the most important step everyone can take to save the lives of shelter pets, and free adoption initiatives like this from Chewy Claus make it that much easier for people to consider bringing home a new best friend. We can’t think of a better time of year than the holiday season to make a pet’s wish for a loving home come true.”
A spokesperson for TMAS said it usually costs $100 to adopt a dog from the shelter and $50 for a cat - thanks to this program, those costs will be entirely waived this weekend.
TMAS is open at 3140 Investigator Dornell Cousette Street from noon until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and all fees will be sponsored through the program.
The Shelter will also bring pets to a Sunday event at the Mary Ann Phelps Activity Center on Rock Quarry Drive from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
If you've been on the fence about enriching your life and theirs by bringing home a shelter pet, this weekend is a great opportunity to do so without worrying about that extra expense.
