UA’s Oldest Living Former Quarterback Is a 93 Year Old Woman
The University of Alabama has a rich history especially when it comes to the football team.
Everyone knows about the legendary coaches who lead the team on the field for Alabama.
According to the Bleacher Report, Alabama has a few legendary coaches.
Mike Dubose, Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, and Harold "Red" Drew to name a few.
Of course, we can't forget about Paul "Bear" Bryant and our current coach, Nick Saban, who is definitely one of the greatest coaches in all of college sports.
There have also been legendary players who played for the Crimson Tide and one player, in particular, is living history.
According to WSFA, Marie Fikes is UA's oldest living quarterback. Fikes attended the University of Alabama back in the 1940s.
WSFA states that Fikes played on campus in a football game called the Honey Bowl.
When speaking with WSFA, Fikes said, " I think it was advertised in the newspaper or something beforehand. But it was all females. And it was intramural sports in which girls played girls from the University of Alabama."
Could you imagine that?
Playing on an intramural sports team competing with friends and having fun, then all of a sudden you look up and you're making history as the oldest living person to play quarterback for a University of Alabama team.
According to WSFA, the Honey Bowl became a big event on campus.
The game would be filled with fans, the Million Dollar Band, and even the Crimson Tide Football team.
WSFA states that Marie Fikes at the age of 93, is doing very well.
Shoutout to Fikes for representing the Crimson Tide for all these years.
