Teresa Bivens: Shaping Tuscaloosa’s Future as a Native Leader

Black History Maker of Alabama - Teresa Croom Bivens

Teresa Croom Bivens is a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mrs. Bivens attended The University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. While at the University, Mrs. Bivens served as an official UA Ambassador by being a member of Capstone Men & Women, a member of XXXI (Thirty-One), a prestigious all-women campus honor society at the University of Alabama and was tapped in multiple honor societies.

After graduation, Mrs. Bivens obtained her Masters and Educational Specialist degree, also from The University of Alabama in Educational Leadership. She is currently at the University, working to obtain her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Bivens educational career began as a sixth-grade teacher in the Tuscaloosa County School System. After two years, she and her husband moved to Trussville, Alabama where she worked as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher within the Trussville City Schools System.

In 2019, Mrs. Bivens and her family decided to come back home to Tuscaloosa where she then became the Reading Coach at Southview Elementary. In 2019, Mrs. Bivens was honored to receive the Nick’s Kids Foundation’s “Teacher Excellence Award”. In 2020, she was hired as Southview’s Assistant Principal. Mrs. Bivens began the 2023-2024 school year being named the new principal of Woodland Forrest Elementary School.

Mrs. Bivens is married to Coach Rodney Bivens, Jr. and they have two beautiful children, Rocwell (6) and Tinsley (3). She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. During Mrs. Bivens spare time, she enjoys going on vacations with her family.
