Alabama Drivers React to Viral Runaway Car Warning

When we think about vehicle safety, often times topics like drunk or impaired driving, wearing your seatbelts and distracted driving are brought up.

Driving distracted has to be one of the most common talking points when it comes to vehicle safety.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes distracted driving as anything that takes your attention away from driving. These things include talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving.

Although driving distracted is a major concern on the roadways there is s a certain instance that could happen while behind the wheel that people don't discuss much. What happened if your accelerator gets stuck and it's engaged?

There's a video on social media that has gone viral sitting at 11.2 million views. The video describes a friend passing away after a situation with her vehicle. The man describes what people should do if their car's accelerator is stuck and their vehicle basically becomes a run away vehicle.

The number one thing is to not try and steer the runaway vehicle. That only equals more danger.

In the video, the man tells that people should immediately put their hand on the gear shaft, and shift the car into neutral. This will help the care no longer be able to accelerate.

Then he instructs people to slow the car down using the brake and safely pulling the vehicle over.
