
Tuscaloosa’s NAACP Honors Samory Pruitt as a Living Legend
The Tuscaloosa Branch of the NAACP’s Living Legend Luncheon on Wednesday, June 19, at Noon at Shelton State Community College located at 9500 Old Greensboro Road.

Dr. Samory Pruitt Will Be Recognized as the 2024 Living Legend
Pruitt has served as The University of Alabama’s Vice President for Community Affairs since its creation in 2004. In his current position, Pruitt oversees the development and management of the university's public outreach initiatives, providing leadership aimed at improving the quality of life on campus and in the broader community. He achieves these goals by fostering partnerships that integrate teaching, research, and service into engagement scholarship.
“Pruitt is actively involved in the West Alabama area, where he has served on the boards of directors for over ten community organizations, including The First Tee of Tuscaloosa, the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, the Tuscaloosa Library Board, and Big Brothers, Big Sisters, among others,” according to a press release from the Tuscaloosa Branch of the NAACP.

Currently serving on the Stillman College Board of Trustees and the Board of the Academy of Community-Engaged Scholars, Pruitt is also an active member of the Tuscaloosa International Rotary Club and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
