What You Need to Know About Thanksgiving Weather in West Alabama
The Storm Prediction Center has defined a "marginal risk" (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for portions of Alabama.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has outlined the general timing for the overall threat from 1 a.m. until 10 a.m. However, the Townsquare Media Coverage areas are split between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m.
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said with “meager instability and somewhat marginal wind fields, the overall severe thunderstorm risk is low. In fact, many places won't have any thunder, and hardly any rain. If a stronger storm can develop, gusty winds and small hail are possible. The chance of a brief, isolated tornado is very low, but not zero.”
Possible Thanksgiving Morning Threats
Brief, isolated tornadoes
Damaging winds up to 60 mph
Quarter-size hail
The Townsquare Media Weather Center will continue to monitor weather conditions.
