Those who live or Alabamians vacationing in Florida have been met with flooding rainfall, and more downpours are expected.


“An elongated area of low pressure near the east coast of Florida is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.

Travelers heading out for summer trips should know that this system could see some gradual development and potentially track along the southeastern U.S. coast over the next few days.

The Townsquare Media Weather Center is also monitoring the possibility of a “tropical depression or storm forming in the western Gulf next week, with flooding rainfall possible from the northern Gulf Coast to Texas and Mexico,” said The Weather Channel.

As we are in the beginning stages of the hurricane season, we will watch conditions closely because NOAA is “predicting an 85% chance of an above-normal season.” Currently, June is tracking above normal for ocean heat content.

Spann said there are “no tropical storms are expected near the Central Gulf Coast (Gulf Shores to Panama City Beach) through the next 7-10 days.”
