Strong to Severe Storms Threaten Alabama Yet Again
Our area should be on guard for another round of strong to severe storms expected to develop this evening and move southward through Sunday morning.
Timeline
The current timing of the incoming system for the entire area starts around Saturday at 10 p.m. and lasts through Sunday at 10 a.m.
West Alabama Timeline
Bibb: Sunday 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
Fayette: Saturday at 10 p.m. through Sunday 2 a.m.
Greene: Sunday 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
Hale: Sunday 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
Lamar: Saturday at 10 p.m. through Sunday 2 a.m.
Perry: Sunday 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
Pickens: Saturday at 10 p.m. through Sunday 5 a.m.
Sumter: Sunday 1 a.m. through 5 a.m.
Tuscaloosa: Saturday at 10 p.m. through Sunday 5 a.m.
Walker: Saturday at 10 p.m. through Sunday 2 a.m.
Risk Level and Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has the entire West Alabama area under a slight risk for strong to severe thunderstorms. This includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.
Threats
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the primary concerns are for “damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail.”
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said, “The air over North Alabama is relatively stable after the activity earlier this afternoon, but the overnight storms could produce some small hail and gusty winds. For now, the overall severe weather threat looks relatively low.”
