Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Alabama This Holiday Weekend
The long-awaited Memorial Day weekend has arrived, marking Monday as a time to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
In addition to this important holiday, it signals the unofficial kickoff to summer for many Alabamians.
The Townsquare Media weather center is closely monitoring developing conditions that could impact your holiday plans on Saturday and Sunday.
Holiday Weekend Outlook
Risk Levels and Areas
The Storm Prediction Center has a good portion of Alabama under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) for Saturday and Sunday.
This includes all the communities in West Alabama, including those in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

Timeline
“Several rounds of thunderstorms are expected to move through the region this weekend and early next week,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “There's a low chance that these become strong to severe both Saturday and Sunday afternoons through the evenings.”
Primary Threats
Damaging winds
Quarter-size hail
James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said “The weekend won't be a wash-out, the sun will be out at times with highs in the low to mid 80s. But, from time to time, a shower or thunderstorm will pass through. Where storms do form, they could be strong.”
ADDITIONAL UPCOMING THREATS
“Additional rounds of severe thunderstorms appear possible Monday and Tuesday,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. “However, confidence remains low at this time due to the uncertainty in the timing of the expected rounds of thunderstorms.”
I will keep you updated on this developing weather situation.
