As mothers across West Alabama are being celebrated tomorrow, Sunday, May 11, for Mother’s Day, be sure to bring along your umbrella and stay weather aware.

We’re looking at showers and thunderstorms moving through most of the area on Sunday.

“A few of the thunderstorms may become severe across the southwest half of Central Alabama during the afternoon into the evening hours,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Risk Level and Area

The Storm Prediction Center has the Townsquare Media Coverage Area of West Alabama under a Marginal (Level 1 out of 5) risk for severe storms.

This includes the following counties: Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

Timeline

The current timeframe for active weather is Sunday, May 11, from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. However, this is a developing system so that the timeline could be adjusted.

Damaging winds to 60 mph

Large hail up to quarter size

“Heavier storms could produce gusty winds and some hail. But for most places, it will be just occasional rain,” said James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist.
