Hurricane Season Update: 50% Chance of System Development
Don’t forget that Hurricane season is in motion and continues through November 30.
According to The Weather Channel, “Formation of tropical systems near the Caribbean or U.S. East Coast is common in August.”
Here is What We Are Monitoring
A disturbed weather area over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is anticipated to interact with an incoming tropical wave within the next few days.
The current location is “near the Leeward Islands and Greater Antilles,” said the National Hurricane Center.
Forecasts indicate that environmental conditions will become favorable for development, potentially leading to the formation of a tropical depression later this week as the system approaches the Greater Antilles or the Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center said, “It has a near-zero chance of development in the next 48 hours and a medium (50 percent) chance in the next 7 days.”
Possible Track
“Given the likely track near the Greater Antilles (Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and/or Cuba), the terrain will have to be factored into the forecast,” said The Weather Channel.
What Does This Mean for Alabama?
At present, it's challenging to make definitive predictions. Forecast models indicate that the tropical low is likely to recurve off the U.S. Atlantic coast, suggesting the system will remain to the east, away from Alabama and the coastline.
BUT … this all could change based on conditions and tracking of the system.
We will keep monitoring and bring you the necessary updates. – Mary K. Townsquare Media Weather Forecaster.
