
City of Tuscaloosa to Host Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day

The event is exclusively for Tuscaloosa County residents, and participants will need to present ID to verify residency. The City will not accept waste from commercial businesses, non-profit organizations, or residents outside the county. Due to budgeting concerns, the City of Tuscaloosa reserves the right to limit the quantity of materials accepted and may cease accepting waste once a quota is reached.
This complimentary event offers residents of Tuscaloosa County a secure and eco-friendly method to dispose of common household hazardous materials that are unsuitable for regular garbage disposal or drainage.
Acceptable examples of household hazardous waste include:
- Drain cleaners
- Household cleaners
- Rust preventatives
- Mothballs
- Automotive fluids
- Paint thinners
- Herbicides
- Pool chemicals
- Metal polishes
- Batteries
- Insecticides
- Propane tanks (up to 20 lbs)
- Latex or oil-based paint
- Antifreeze
- Pesticides
- Bleaches
- Oil or gasoline
- Ammonia
- Creosote
- Light bulbs
- Mercury-containing equipment
- Chemistry sets
- Wood strippers
- Sealants
- Lawn chemicals/fertilizers
- Arts and crafts supplies
- Solvents
Items NOT accepted include:
- Tires
- Medical waste
- Household garbage
- Electronics
- Non-residential or out-of-county wastes
- Radioactive wastes
The City of Tuscaloosa is set to host its annual Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tuscaloosa Public Safety Logistics building, situated at 3311 Reese Phifer Avenue.
