However, it is something I will never fully wrap my head around or even begin to understand.

As a dad, that is a fault that has never entered my mind, even after going through a terrible, earth-shattering divorce several years ago.

At no time could I look at my daughters and my sons and even think of leaving them and running away.

Now I watched someone else do that, but I didn’t understand it then, and I don’t understand this today.

How could any parent just abandon a child and leave them completely alone with seven dogs for nearly a year?

And, of course, the story comes from Alabama, and social media is having a field day with Alabama jokes and insults today.

The story comes from Mobile County, Alabama, and involves a mother and stepfather who moved to Florida and simply left their 14-year-old daughter behind.

It’s pretty hard to argue. Oh, shoot, we just forgot when they left her for nearly a year.

It’s just disgusting.

That’s the definition of trash.

These two individuals are trash, and I’m sorry to be so direct, but this really upsets me.

According to the sheriff's office in that area, the 14-year-old was left with seven dogs in a mobile home that had lots of urine, feces, roaches, and garbage.

Get this, law enforcement told us that one of the dogs was actually found dead in a closet.

Thank God, the parents have been arrested.

Eugene Medrano and Marchelle Pertilla are both charged in connection with this case today.

Local animal control officers have taken the remaining dogs to a facility.

Is there anything else to say? It’s just so heartbreaking and disgusting all at the same time.
