Shelton State Women's Golf claimed its first national championship in women's golf on Friday, winning the 2025 NJCAA Division II National Championship at Cedar Pointe Golf Club.

It's the 16th national championship Shelton State has won, with the men's golf team winning a title in 1999. The Lady Bucs won the women's national championship by 34 strokes and never trailed en route to a dominant victory.

Day two of the tournament was the lowest shooting score of Shelton State's season, with all five golfers posting a sub-80 score. Peyton Maraman and Katie Hallmark both shot 75, while Jordan Ransdell and Ashlee Allen both shot 77. Sawyer Hobbs rounded out with a 79.

Head coach Chris Sanford said of the women's first national championship:

"To say I'm proud of these seven young ladies is an understatement! They played very well the first two days and then battled their rear ends off in some very adverse wind in rounds three and four. Playing in 25 mph winds with gusts to 40 and 50 is just something you can't prepare for. It was very difficult and given the tournament and what they were playing for, they came through with flying colors. This group has listened to all the coach speak, worked hard, and had that bond that champions have. They have won three straight championships in the last 6 weeks playing their best golf. Assistant Coach David Zauchin, who is invaluable to me and vital to our success, and I are just ecstatic for the success of these young ladies. All 5 girls were on the All-Tournament Team and will later be named All-Americans. It has truly been a special season! We are super excited to bring home the national championship to Tuscaloosa and Shelton State! Go Bucs!"
