Notes From Alabama Football Fall Camp Practice No. 6

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama was back out on the practice field on Tuesday morning, with the media able to view roughly 15 minutes (three periods) of Tuesday morning's practice. Here is what we saw during the media-viewing portion on Tuesday.

Running Back Order Shuffling

During Monday's practice viewing, we noticed Daniel Hill was no longer the lead man during the running back drills we were observing, with Tuscaloosa native Kevin Riley now leading the way. The order has shuffled again on Tuesday morning during QB-RB handoff lines:

• Austin Mack-Kevin Riley
• Keelon Russell-AK Dear
• Jett Thomalla-Trae’shawn Brown
• Tayden-Evan Kaawa-Khalifa Keith
• John Gazzaniga-EJ Crowell
• Jett Thomalla-Daniel Hill

When Alabama flipped the field and worked back the other direction, the order shuffled slightly, with Keelon Russell getting the extra rep this time.

We've noticed over the last few practices that Keelon Russell is typically the quarterback who gets the extra rep with the sixth running back. Does it mean anything? Probably not, but it is an observation we've made that we'll keep in our back pocket and might ask head coach Kalen DeBoer about on Thursday after the first scrimmage.

Offensive Line Pecking Order

The offensive line is typically in an area where it is difficult for the media to view, but with Alabama switching things up during Tuesday's practice and using fields two and three, we got a good look at the pecking order of a handful of the Tide's offensive line competitions.

In every drill I was able to see, the first five guys who got reps for Alabama were:

• Jackson Lloyd, LT
• Mal Waldrep Jr., LG
• Racin Delgatty, C
• Michael Carroll, RG
• Jayvin James, RT

Lloyd, Delgatty, and Carroll are penciled in as the starters at their respective positions, with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb speaking highly of Waldrep during his Monday morning availability. Waldrep is competing with William Sanders for the starting left guard spot, who we saw on Tuesday working with freshman tackle Jared Graham.

Other Observations from Tuesday's Practice

• Ty Haywood (Michigan Transfer) was working as the fourth-string left guard, with Waldrep, Ethan Fields, and Sanders ahead of him. JUCO transfer Tyrell Miller was working as the second-team left tackle alongside Ethan Fields at guard.
• Behind James at right tackle was Texas transfer Nick Brooks, who is competing in the starting battle. Brooks looks massive at 6-7, 333 pounds.
• Alabama's defensive backs were working right in front of where we were allowed to stand on Tuesday, with Zabien Brown and Dijon Lee Jr. working first. Behind them were Red Morgan and freshman Jorden Edmonds.

Alabama will return to the practice field on Wednesday, August 12. The Crimson Tide's first scrimmage will be this Thursday, August 13. The first game of the season is scheduled for Saturday, September 5 against East Carolina.
