LSU Cancels Spring Football Game

Another SEC program has fallen to the recent trend in college football, which is seeing multiple programs altering or cancelling their spring football games.

The Texas Longhorns, via head coach Steve Sarkisian, have cancelled the spring football game the Longhorns typically have as the final practice in spring football. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer announced Alabama would alter the format after having a modified spring game last season.

Now, a second SEC team has canceled its spring football game, with Brian Kelly announcing the LSU Tigers would not hold one.

However, LSU will not leave Tiger fans wanting on April 12. Instead of a spring football game, LSU will host an open practice for fans, followed by an autograph session. This is similar to the fan day that Alabama holds in August for Yea Alabama collective members.

The event in Tiger Stadium will be free for LSU fans to attend.

LSU will open its season in Clemson, South Carolina on August 30, taking on the Clemson Tigers in the inaugural game of the 2025 college football season. Garrett Nussmeier is returning as the starting quarterback for LSU after passing for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns. Nussmeier also rushed for three touchdowns in the 2024 season.
