Crimson Tide Officially Name Co-DCs

The Alabama Crimson Tide defensive staff is all but complete, with Alabama announcing on Monday the additions of two new coaches on the defensive side of the football.

Alabama named former South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack as its defensive coordinator and linebackers coach earlier in February. That announcement came after the Crimson Tide announced Freddie Roach as associate head coach and defensive line coach. Now, the Crimson Tide have made hires in the secondary.

Alabama has named former Buffalo head coach Maurice Linguist and former Wisconsin safeties coach Colin Hitschler as co-defensive coordinators and defensive back coaches.

Kalen DeBoer released a statement on both the additions to the Alabama coaching staff, "We are excited to have Maurice and Colin join our staff at Alabama,” DeBoer said. “Maurice brings both head coaching experience and an established record of success coaching defensive backs. Colin boasts a wealth of knowledge and experience, has a reputation for developing the skill sets of the players he coaches, and is an excellent tactician. They are both proven recruiters and outstanding teachers.”

Linguist was the head coach at Buffalo for three seasons, while Hitschler was serving as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Wisconsin for one season. Before Wisconsin, Hitschler coached in the secondary at Cincinnati from 2018-2022.

Linguist said he is looking forward to working with Kalen DeBoer and Alabama.
“I have always had an incredible admiration for Alabama’s long history of success,” Linguist said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help Coach DeBoer continue that winning tradition, while developing our players both on and off the field.”

Hitschler highlighted his experience in the state of Alabama in his statement. “I have worked in this state, and I understand the importance of Alabama football and its winning tradition,” Hitschler said. “I am excited to have the chance to continue to uphold the Alabama standard while helping the young men in this program to become the best versions of themselves.”
