TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Crimson Tide played host to the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, in a game that has dictated national champions in the past. This year's installment of Alabama and LSU didn't have the allure that past editions had, with LSU led by interim head coach Frank Wilson after the Tigers fired Brian Kelly for a disappointing season. The Tigers came into the night 5-3 and 2-3 in SEC play. Meanwhile, Alabama (7-1, 5-0) was as stable as ever, and hunting for bigger fish as the Crimson Tide began to eye the SEC championship and the College Football Playoffs.

All that stood between Alabama and a trip to Atlanta was the LSU Tigers and the 12th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners. First up in Tuscaloosa, LSU.

The first quarter saw Alabama and LSU jockeying for position, feeling the other team out as both were coming off bye weekends. Alabama, led by quarterback Ty Simpson, took the offensive first, with the Crimson Tide driving into LSU territory before falling short on a fourth-down try. LSU had better success moving the ball, but sputtered in the redzone, missing the chip-shot 30-yard field goal that hungover college students have made all season long on College Gameday. Alabama responded by taking one play to get into LSU territory before sputtering yet again, but got bailed out by Nikhai Hill-Green, who forced a fumble on LSU's next offensive possession, and the right foot of Conor Talty, who drilled a 45-yard field goal to give Alabama a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the offenses come to life a bit more, starting to shake off the bye week rust. LSU pushed into Alabama territory with more screens than an Apple store, and tacked on a field goal of its own.

Alabama's next offensive drive finally saw the Crimson Tide find the endzone, with Daniel Hill capping a seven-play, 75-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run.

Alabama showcased its two-minute offense, flexing an offensive unit that has killed so many teams already this season. The Crimson Tide went 66 yards in three plays, with Ty Simpson finally connecting on a deep shot to Lotzeir Brooks before throwing his 21st touchdown of the season to Ryan Williams. The Saraland, Alabama native made just his second catch of the game, but it gave the Crimson Tide a 17-3 lead, and a bit of a safety net for when LSU got the ball to start the second half.

LSU tried to cut into Alabama's lead with its opening drive of the second half, but the Tigers could only move 48 yards in 11 plays, and linebacker Yhonzae Pierre made the Tigers pay for getting stuck in a third-and-long situation with a sack on Nussmeier, Pierre's fifth on the year. LSU came away with a field goal after six minutes had come off the clock on its opening drive. The third quarter looked eerily similar to the first, with only one field goal, and neither offense was able to jumpstart and put points on the board.

The Tigers added another three points in the fourth quarter, as Alabama's defense bent, but didn't break. That's been the motto all season defensively for Alabama, and it makes opposing kickers look good, but opposing offenses pile up yardage in between the 20s. Alabama added a field goal of its own late in the fourth quarter to officially cement the 20-9 victory over the LSU Tigers.

No. 4 Alabama improves to 8-1 on the season and 6-0 in SEC play. The Tide's next game will come on Saturday, November 15, at 2:30 p.m.
