Alabama Tight Ends Coach Bryan Ellis Switching Positions on Kalen DeBoer’s Staff
Alabama tight ends coach Bryan Ellis will have a new role with the Crimson Tide during the 2026 season, with Football Scoop reporting that Ellis will transition to being the Crimson Tide's quarterbacks coach, replacing former offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan as the Crimson Tide's quarterbacks coach.

Ellis, a Byron, Georgia, native, played quarterback at UAB, graduating from the Blazers' program in 2011. He has experience coaching quarterbacks, spending time as USC's quarterbacks coach during the 2018 season, helping develop the successor to Sam Darnold with the Trojans. He was also the quarterbacks coach at Western Kentucky in 2019 and 2020, and served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022 and 2023 at Georgia Southern.
He joined Kalen DeBoer's staff at Alabama in 2024, coaching tight ends. He helped develop CJ Dippre and Robbie Outz, who are both currently on NFL rosters, and in 2025, senior tight end Josh Cuevas had the second-best season of his career with 37 receptions for 411 yards and four touchdowns.
He'll replace former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Nick Sheridan, who was the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator in 2024 and the quarterbacks coach in 2025. Sheridan accepted the offensive coordinator position at Michigan State after the Crimson Tide's loss to Indiana in the Rose Bowl.
Alabama also replaced wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard with long-time SEC assistant coach Derrick Nix, who most recently served as the Auburn Tigers' offensive coordinator and running backs coach. According to the report by Football Scoop, Alabama will look externally to fill the role vacated by Ellis.
