Gregg Allman Cancels All Tour Dates for 2017
Gregg Allman has abruptly canceled all of his scheduled tour dates for 2017, offering little in the way of information.
A statement on Allman's official website reads, "It has been determined that Gregg will not be touring in 2017. For those of you who purchased tickets for shows in June, contact the ticket outlet from where you purchased the tickets for a refund."
The statement offers no further explanation for the cancellations.
The 69-year-old Grammy-winning music legend previously canceled a string of shows in 2016 during a bout with pneumonia.
Allman has a long history of significant health problems. He famously struggled with addiction off and on for many years, and he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2007. The iconic musician underwent a liver transplant in 2010, and had lung surgery in 2012 after an infection that forced him to cut short a European tour.
The music legend had a tough year on the road in 2016. That April a tour bus carrying his crew crashed in West Virginia, and three people were hospitalized. He's also weathered tragedy already in 2017; in January, his former bandmate and longtime friend Butch Trucks died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“I’m heartbroken,” Allman said in an official statement. “I’ve lost another brother, and it hurts beyond words. Butch and I knew each other since we were teenagers, and we were bandmates for over 45 years. He was a great man and a great drummer, and I’m going to miss him forever.”
