After coming up just short in so many SEC games this season, Alabama baseball has a chance to close the season strong. The Crimson Tide, which entered last weekend with just two conference wins, pulled off the sweep against No. 4 Auburn on the Plains.

It marked the second straight sweep at Auburn, but more importantly, it could prove to be a pivotal weekend for the program. Head coach Greg Goff explained why during an interview on The Gary Harris Show.

"One weekend is great, but beating them and hopefully continuing to have momentum as we finish these next couple of weeks will build us for the future," Goff told host Gary Harris. "But I really feel like this weekend, as we build our program in the years to come, it's going to definitely, to me, is a turning point."

That's something no one will know for a year or two, but sweeping your in-state rival gives fans an immediate sense of satisfaction.

"When I took this job, I grasped the rivalry of Alabama and Auburn and I want our players to know that our fanbase, the player that comes before us, and the player that will come after us - the whole thing - I wanted them to know how important this was."

The series sweep also revived any chance Alabama has of making it to Birmingham for the SEC Tournament. The Crimson Tide still sits at the bottom of the conference with a 5-19 record but Tennessee and Georgia only have seven conference wins. Those three teams will likely battle it out for the final spot in the tournament.

Alabama will finish the season with a home series against No. 7 Florida this week and then three games at Vanderbilt next week.
