Doctor, Hospital Deny Wrongdoing in Glenn Frey’s Death
The doctor and hospital that treated Eagles legend Glenn Frey prior to his death are seeking the dismissal of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by his widow.
Frey died in January of 2016 after being hospitalized for months, and his wife, Cindy, filed suit against Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan and Dr. Stephen Itzkowitz nearly two years later. Frey's death was attributed to complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. Her filing claimed her husband "was rendered sick, lame and disabled, suffered injuries, pain, mental anguish, was compelled to seek medical care and attention, incurred expenses thereof, and was permanently injured and disabled until the time of his death" due to the doctor and hospital's negligence in "promptly and properly treat ulcerative colitis and associated symptoms and diseases of the bowel."
The suit also alleged that his medical team failed to treat an infection properly and failed to notify his family of the risks and side effects of the treatment they did provide. The filing came just before the statute of limitations would have expired for filing such a case.
Now, according to court documents the Blast obtained, the hospital and Dr. Itzkowitz are seeking to have the case dismissed, claiming that "the injuries of the plaintiff were caused in whole or in part by the culpable conduct of the plaintiff." The Blast's report does not detail what role the doctor and hospital believe Cindy Frey could have played in causing Frey's injuries.
The Eagles returned to the road in 2018 with Frey's son, Deacon Frey, filling in some of his father's role in the band, while Vince Gill has also been added to the lineup.
