Father of Clemson QB Compliments Nick Saban

The Alabama and Clemson rivalry that has developed over the last several years may be getting a little bit more interesting. Clemson’s expected starting quarterback, D.J. Uiagalelei has a younger brother, Matayo, who started hitting the recruiting circuit this past week. The brother’s father was highly complimentary of Alabama head coach Nick Saban after their recent visit to Tuscaloosa.

Uiagalelei commented that he can see his younger son suiting up for the Crimson Tide because of the way Saban relates to a parent’s love for their child. Saban has always been committed to producing not only strong football players but strong people off the field as well.

Uiagalelei’s older son, D.J., has already made a name for himself at Clemson. The quarterback was considered the No. 3 overall player in the state of California and the No. 10 player in the class of 2020.

Uiagalelei saw playing time in nine games as a freshman, making two starts while starter Trevor Lawrence was sidelined due to COVID-19. He completed 78 passes for 914 yards and five touchdowns with an additional 60 yards rushing and four touchdowns on the ground.

Matayo is a 4-star edge defender standing at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds. He is rated the No. 3 player in the state of California and the No. 47 player in the class of 2023. The rising junior reportedly has 19 scholarship offers already according to 247Sports.

The younger Uiagalelei will be enrolling into school for the 2023 season. Depending on his older brother’s draft status, the two Uiagaleleis could play with or against each other for one season in college, making his college choice intriguing for the colleges chasing his commitment.
