No. 10: Faith Hill – Country’s Most Powerful Women of All Time
At this point in the list of country music's most powerful women, each artist's name is essentially the explanation. "Because she's Faith Hill" is enough. She's an all-time great female country singer.
Hill was one of the dominant country females throughout the '90s, and then she went on to record Grammy-winning songs like "Breathe" that made her an international pop superstar. The multi-time CMA and ACM winner's go-to songs include "This Kiss," "Wild One," "Let's Go to Vegas" and "The Way You Love Me." Her best ballads often featured friend-turned boyfriend-turned husband Tim McGraw. "Let's Make Love" is one of the greatest love songs of all time.
Later in her career Hill would show a wide emotional range and pick places to showcase her tremendous talent. "Mississippi Girl" was her rootsy return to country music, while "Like We Never Loved at All" let fans and the industry know that after a decade and change, little had changed. More than a decade later she'd go all Faith Hill on 'em again with "Speak to a Girl," her 2017 duet with McGraw. It's hard not to think of her '90s peak when hearing this song.
A long break between successful singles and solo albums has hardly worn the polish off Hill's shine. Any time a great young vocal talent reaches toward's country music's pop boundaries (both in sound and look), she's doing it with Hill in mind. Millions grew up wanting to be Faith Hill.
