Carrie Underwood Wows With ‘Like I’ll Never Love You Again’ at CMT Artists of the Year [Watch]
Carrie Underwood delivered a very special performance at the recent 2016 CMT Artists of the Year ceremony in Nashville, belting out "Like I'll Never Love You Again" at the awards show.
She performed the song with the Love Junkies, the songwriting collective that consists of Liz Rose, Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey. The hitmaking trio wrote the song, which appears on Underwood's latest album, Storyteller. They provided backing vocals for the powerful performance, which took place at Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
The superstar is enjoying a year that most artists only dream about, with three consecutive No. 1 singles and a continuously sold-out headlining tour. She was named one of CMT's five Artists of the Year, along with Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan and Chris Stapleton, and the singer got teary-eyed during her acceptance speech.
After a video was displayed of Underwood discussing the importance of acting as a mentor to up-and-coming female artists, and pictures of her husband and son were displayed, Underwood walked to the podium to accept her honor.
"Aren't we blessed? God is good and he's definitely been good to me," she said. "I'm the luckiest person in the world to be able to have the most amazing people around me personally and professionally."
Taking a moment to compose herself, Underwood couldn't stop the tears from forming. "Aw, man," Underwood said, looking to her husband Mike Fisher in the audience. "I don’t know why I’m getting teary-eyed. I think it was seeing my little guy on the screens." She then thanked Fisher for being so supportive while she's out on the road on tour.
She also thanked her team, as well as CMT.
"Thank you CMT for having this night to celebrate so many incredible artists. I don't know how I'm one of them but thank you so much," she said. "Thank you to everybody that's been coming to the shows shows all year, it's been such an incredible tour and we wouldn't be doing what we're doing if it wasn't for the fans. Thank God for country music."
