Alabama Walk-On Jamey Mosley Earns Football Scholarship

Alabama linebacker Jamey Mosley hasn't played a snap for the Crimson Tide during his first two years on campus, but the younger brother of NFL linebacker C.J. Mosley has shown his coaches enough to earn a scholarship for the 2016 season.

Mosley came to Tuscaloosa as a preferred walk-on from Theodore, Alabama right after his brother was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The 6-foot-5, 228 pound linebacker has shown head coach Nick Saban enough that he said on Tuesday that Mosley has likely carved out a role for himself in 2016.

"We didn't give it to him, he earned it," Saban said at a press conference. "And I'd like to say that he's earned it on his own. He's worked very hard and probably can make a contribution to our team this year."

Walk-ons don't receive much recognition in a program unless that moment comes where they receive a scholarship, but Saban said that walk-ons have played a big role in his program.

"We have a lot of good walk-ons here. It really has improved the quality of our practice."

Mosley is competing with a deep of outside linebackers as Alabama prepares for its September 3 matchup against USC.
