The Alabama Crimson Tide women's basketball team earned it's first Southeastern Conference victory of the season in a nail biting 56-53 win over rival Auburn.


After falling behind early in the game, Alabama battled back taking a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Tide's best quarter came in the second as Alabama outscored Auburn 16-9, taking a 32-21 lead into the half.

Coming out of the locker room, both offenses struggled to put points on the board. The Tigers outscored the Tide 12-8 in the third quarter, tightening the Alabama lead to 40-33 going into the fourth.

Auburn went on a 5-0 run to start the fourth quarter, but the Tide responded with a 6-0 run. The Tide established a double-digit lead once again, 52-41 with 4:44 left in the game, but the Tigers clawed back into the contest with a few big shots. With 59 seconds left, Auburn drained a three-point basket making the score 54-51. The Tide hit some clutch free throws in the final seconds, holding on for the 56-53 victory.

JaMya Mingo-Young led the Tide in scoring with 14 points and Brittany Davis earned her third double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Auburn was led in scoring by Aicha Coulibaly and Honesty Scott-Grayson with 17 points each.

Alabama shot 31% from the field while Auburn shot 30% from the field. The Tide outrebounded the Tigers 46-43.

This was the Tide's fifth straight win over the Tigers.
