There is a host of recommendations on how to stay safe during this time of rising temperatures. Some of these precautions could lead to an increase in your energy bill.

Alabama Power has some great tips to help during this time to help you save money and options for bill payment assistance. “The extremely hot weather means customers are using more electricity to stay cool. Heating and cooling are the largest energy expenses for your home and can account for as much as 50 percent of your energy bill,” said Danielle Kimbrough, Alabama Power spokesperson.

“Customers may notice a significant increase in their bills this summer, but there are plenty of energy-saving tips that customers can keep in mind to help control costs.”

How to Manage your Energy Bill from Alabama Power

Customers can sign up for “My Power Usage Alerts” which sends them email alerts when usage has exceeded the threshold they set, as well as daily usage alerts with a summary of usage.

 

Customers can also use Budget Billing, a free service that lets customers pay an averaged bill each month, based on annual use. Budget Billing can help stabilize seasonal variations in energy bills.
