A couple years ago, we were driving back from our Colorado summer vacation, passing through Texas, when all of a sudden, the bright lights of the Texas State Trooper police car started flashing behind me.

Instinctively, I glanced down at my speedometer to see how fast I was going. Surprisingly, I was going 5 miles UNDER the speed limit. So I asked myself, "Why am I getting pulled over?"  I quickly pulled over, and had my drivers license out of my wallet, ready to hand to the State Trooper as he approached our vehicle.

The Officer took my Alabama Drivers License, looked at it for a second, and said, "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

I said, "No I don't, Sir".

He said, "I followed you for close to a mile, and you were driving in the LEFT lane. I know you're from Alabama, but here in The State Of Texas, the LEFT lane is only for passing, not for extended traveling.'

I said, "Oh, I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't know, we don't have that law in Alabama."

He said, "That's what I figured. I will let you off with a warning, but only use the LEFT lane for passing."

I said, "Thank You, Sir" , and continued on my drive back to Alabama, as I told my Girlfriend, "Thank God we don't have a stupid law like that in Alabama".

Well. according to this article, we DO! Check it out HERE

Therefore, the next time you're on an Alabama Highway, please remember that if you DO drive in The Left Lane for any other reason than passing another vehicle, you could be TICKETED!
