The Tuscaloosa Police Department is looking into a threat of violence allegedly made to a Tuscaloosa school yesterday.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, the threat started when a photo of a young man was posted on social media with a claim that he had recently been released from a mental health care facility and had threatened to commit violence at a school.  Authorities are now trying to determine if the threat is credible.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department released a statement last night on Facebook:

“The Tuscaloosa Police Department takes threats of any kind seriously, especially ones that may involve our children,” the release from TPD stated. “We received information regarding a possible threat; however, no individual school has been directly threatened. TPD is still accessing its credibility, as we do so we have taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of students in our city.
