High school kids will get a little bit more sleep starting in the Fall.  Tuscaloosa City Schools have approved changes to the time students will start and end school each day.

Elementary school will start at 7:55 a.m. and end at 2:40 p.m, middle school will start at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m. while high school will start at 8:25 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m.beginning with the 2018-2019 school year.   Stars Academy and Success Prep will start at 8:25 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m..

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine had found that students would get more benefit from starting class no earlier than 8:30 a.m., adding that a full night’s sleep would make them better prepared for class.  The move will also help with the strain on bus drivers in their efforts to make sure more students get to class on time.

In addition to the change in start and end times the school board also approved a waiver for the Jan. 16 and 17 snow days. Those days will not be made up.
