With "Watered Down," Trace Adkins does something artists of a certain age are often unwilling to do: he admits it.

The slow country ballad is yet another fitting song that finds this scarred country singer in his most vulnerable state. At 55 years old Adkins is no longer the man who swiveled his hips in the music video for "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." A mistake so many artists in his boots make is they pretend they are that same person, and it often comes across as foolish. Adkins is nothing but honest.

Matt Jenkins, Trevor Rosen and Shane McAnally co-wrote "Watered Down," the third song on Adkins' upcoming album that has been released to radio. It's a vocal showcase, but more than that it's a window into the singer's battered soul. He's on the back end of the bell curve now, but the ride can still be plenty enjoyable.

Did You Know?: Adkins' Something's Going On album will be released on March 31 and feature songs "Jesus and Jones" and "Lit."

Trace Adkins, "Watered Down" Lyrics:

I don't go all in but I'll take a gamble / And I don't burn both ends of the candle anymore / I take the corners, slower and steady / This chip on my shoulder it ain't so heavy anymore / We still fly like gypsies, just a little closer to the ground / We still love our whiskey, but now it's just a little watered down.

Couple girls I could've married, I married someone else / These torches I still carry don't burn like hell the way they used to / Back side of 40 ain't near as crazy / And Sunday morning ain't near as hazy anymore / We still fly like gypsies, just a little closer to the ground / We still love our whiskey, but now it's just a little watered down.

Those old ghosts still chase me / But feels like they're losing ground / Yeah I'm still crazy / But now I'm just a little watered down.
