Vince Gill took home the win for Best American Roots Song, for his group the Time Jumpers' "Kid Sister," at the 2017 Grammy Awards on Sunday night (Feb. 12).

Gill's Best American Roots Song win was announced during the 2017 Grammys Premiere Ceremony, which was streamed online before the televised awards show. When taking the stage, Gill told the audience, "I wish you all would have had the chance, once in your life, to hear the voice of the woman I wrote this song about," referring to the late Dawn Sears, one of his Time Jumpers bandmates.

"She's one of the best voices you'll ever hear in your life," Gill added. "I encourage you to find her voice."

Gill already has 20 Grammys under his belt, but this win for “Kid Sister,” which he penned for his Western swing ensemble, is the country star’s first songwriting-related Grammys trophy. "Kid Sister" is one of 14 tracks on the Time Jumpers’ third studio album of the same name, which was written in honor of Sears, the band’s vocalist, who passed away in 2014.
